Toms-One for One

If you have not heard of TOMS, you must be brought up to date.  Toms is a company that has also taken on social responsibility.  When you purchase a pair of TOMS shoes, the company gives a pair of shoes to a child in need. They believe in "One for One."

Many children in underdeveloped and developing countries must walk to school.  These children often do not have shoes, or have shoes that do not fit them well.  When traveling bare foot, of course, increases chances of disease and illness.  TOMS is committed to creating a greater impact with the shoes they give.  They identify communities that are in need of shoes because of economic, health, or educational concerns.  They give shoes that fit so that children can wear them properly.  They also give children shoes as they grow.  Once a community is identified, they continue to give shoes to that community as the children grow.  In addition to shoes, the children also benefit from larger health and education programs run by TOMS' partners.

In addition to giving a pair of shoes to a child in need, TOMS also does a great deal in increasing awareness about the issue.  They host an event:  "One Day Without Shoes"
One Day Without Shoes is a day that raises awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child's life.  Millions of children live without shoes, being exposed to injury and disease each day.  On this day, individuals are encouraged to go a whole day without wearing shoes to experience what these children experience.  In 2012, the event was held on April 10th.  If you want to join on this for 2013, sign up on the TOMS website to learn more and get updates:  http://www.toms.ca/onedaywithoutshoes

Now, what does TOMS have to do with anything henna?  Aside from the fact that we are proud to support TOMS in their efforts, we love the idea of having, literally, a canvas to work with!  Many of TOMS shoes are of course made of canvas material, making it the perfect place to do some henna designs.  A client ended up purchasing a pair of TOMS, and Nitasha, decorated them for her.  Here are a few photos of the TOMS that were decorated and a look at the intricate details!  If you are interested in having your TOMS decorated with henna inspiration, please contact us through our website:  www.HennaArt.ca.

Another fun event for us was being able to apply henna on supporters of One Day Without Shoes.  Since these individuals were going to spend a whole day without shoes on, they wanted to be able to show off their decorated henna feet.  Here are a few fun photos of decorated henna feet.
