This week's post will tell you all about getting belly henna done. Please be sure to book an appointment in advance so we can secure a spot for you. Our spring, summer and fall season books up very quickly!
WHEN SHOULD I GET MY BELLY HENNA DONE?
Get your design done when your belly is nice and round. This could be as early as month 6 or as late as the 8th month. We need the belly to be big enough to do up a nice design. Book your appointment at least 2 weeks in advance.
WHAT IS IN YOUR HENNA?
We will use henna paste made with lavender essential oil. Lavender essential oil is calming and better to use during pregnancy. Our paste will be made with henna powder, lemon juice, lavender essential oil and sugar. You can also get your hands on some pregnancy safe henna cones here: http://www.hennaart.ca/Lavender-Henna-Cone.html
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE APPOINTMENT?
Please shower and bathe BEFORE the appointment. We do have wipes to clean off your belly before the application, but avoid applying lotions or oils to your belly where the design will go. Make sure you have eaten and had lots of water. Your session will last about an hour, so be sure you and baby are happy before we start the appointment.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Wear loose, comfortable attire. You will need to wear something that can be raised up to expose your belly, or just wear a strapless bra. You can bring along a change of clothes if you want, or bring saris or scarves to drape over.
WHAT TYPE OF DESIGNS SHOULD I DO?
You can get pretty much any design done that you want. The belly is large enough to do pretty intricate designs. We love the idea of doing a mandala centered around your belly button. It's okay if your button is a little low! We can do another beautiful design for you. Some examples are Buddha, Tree of Life, Hearts, lotuses, or swirly designs.
HOW LONG IS THE SESSION GOING TO BE?
Our typical session will take 20-30 minutes of application and about 15-20 minutes of drying time. You should also give us about 10 minutes to properly seal up your belly design. Book yourself for at least an hour for the session. If you want your hands done with henna, add some more time for application.
CAN I BRING MY PARTNER/KIDS TO MY APPOINTMENT?
If they are well behaved, you are welcome to bring your kids/partner to the session. We don't have any toys or play area for the kids, but we do have a lobby where the kids can hang out while the mama gets her belly done. Please let us know in advance so we are prepared to accommodate your family.
CAN I BRING MY PHOTOGRAPHER TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Yes! We love working with local photographers! Please let us know in advance so we are prepared to accommodate the photographer.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE CARE OF MY BELLY DESIGN?
We will seal the design with medical tape so that your henna stays in place. The longer you leave the henna on your belly, the deeper and darker the stain will be. Since the belly has fewer layers of the epidermis, compared to the hands and feet, it requires a little more care to get a beautiful stain. If you can avoid water and washing for 24 hours, you will have a gorgeous henna stain.
